The Vatican announced on Thursday that Pope Francis experienced his second fall in two months, resulting in a bruised forearm. The 88-year-old Pontiff, who has faced increasingly fragile health in recent years, took a tumble at the Santa Marta residence, his home within the Vatican. Fortunately, no bones were broken, and his arm is now in a sling as a precaution.
The official statement from the press office detailed, “This morning, due to a fall at the Santa Marta house, Pope Francis suffered a contusion on his right forearm, without fractures. The arm was immobilised as a precautionary measure.”
This incident follows a previous fall in December, which left the Argentine Pope with a notable bruise on his right jaw. Since assuming the role of the head of the Catholic Church in 2013, Pope Francis has encountered recurring health issues, including knee and hip pain, and multiple bouts of bronchitis. Since 2022, he has relied on a wheelchair for mobility.
Despite his health challenges, Pope Francis remains highly active. In September, he completed a significant four-nation tour, the longest of his papacy in terms of duration and distance.
