Ogun State Governor Awards N2 Million to Best Graduating Students of Gateway Polytechnic
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced a cash prize of N2 million each for the three best graduating students of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade. The announcement was made during the institution’s 5th combined convocation ceremony, held at the school auditorium on Wednesday.
The recipients of this recognition were Suliyat Yusuf (2023/2024 session), Victor Omontuhen (2022/2023 session), and Theresa Agu (2021/2022 session), who emerged as the top graduates of their respective academic years.
Representing the governor at the event, Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele emphasized the state government’s dedication to advancing education, revealing that N200 million has been allocated to support educational development across the state.
“Our administration has set aside N200 million for the state education trust fund to enhance the quality of our state-owned tertiary institutions. These initiatives highlight our commitment to fostering an education system that equips students for success in an evolving world,” she said.
Recognizing the outstanding achievements of the best graduating students, she added, “It gives me great pleasure to commend these students for their hard work and to announce that each of them will receive a cash award of N2 million from the state government.”
The event also included a posthumous fellowship award to the late Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Adewumi Onanuga, in recognition of her contributions to her constituency. Governor Abiodun extended condolences to her family, acknowledging her lasting impact.
Addressing the graduates, he urged them to embrace innovation and problem-solving as they step into the next phase of their careers.
The Polytechnic’s Rector, Dr. Sanni Oseni, highlighted the exceptional academic performance of the graduating class, revealing that 248 students graduated with distinction, including 80 at the National Diploma level and 168 at the Higher National Diploma level.
“Today, we celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students who have excelled academically, overcoming numerous challenges. As you move forward, I encourage you to uphold excellence, innovation, and resilience in your respective fields,” he stated.
Delivering a valedictory speech on behalf of the graduating class, the overall best student, Suliyat Yusuf, who earned a 3.91/4.00 Cumulative Grade Point Average, encouraged her peers to approach the future with determination and integrity.
“As we embark on new journeys, let us apply the knowledge and values we have gained here to make meaningful contributions to society. This is not the end but the beginning of a promising future,” she remarked.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the foundation-laying event for the institution’s new School of Agriculture complex, further reinforcing the Polytechnic’s commitment to academic and infrastructural development.
