La Liga: Mbappe shines as Real Madrid thrash Las Palmas 4-1

Mbappé Shines as Real Madrid Secure 4-1 Victory Over Las Palmas

Kylian Mbappé delivered a sensational performance, scoring twice to lead Real Madrid to a commanding 4-1 victory over Las Palmas, propelling the reigning champions to the top of La Liga on Sunday.

It was an ideal weekend for Los Blancos, who took advantage of Atlético Madrid’s shock defeat to Leganés on Saturday, while third-placed Barcelona was held to a draw against Getafe.

After a somewhat inconsistent start following his high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, Mbappé has found his rhythm in recent weeks. The 26-year-old’s brace took his La Liga goal tally to 12, making him the league’s second-highest scorer behind Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski. Across all competitions, he has now netted 18 goals in 30 appearances, proving to be an increasingly vital figure in Real Madrid’s attack.

Match Summary

With Vinícius Júnior suspended, all eyes were on Mbappé, and he did not disappoint. However, Las Palmas stunned the Santiago Bernabéu crowd by taking the lead within just 30 seconds. A swift attacking move saw Sandro Ramírez set up Fábio Silva for a close-range finish.

Madrid responded aggressively, with Brahim Díaz missing a golden opportunity and Jasper Cillessen making a brilliant save to deny Mbappé’s powerful strike.

The French forward made amends from the penalty spot, converting after Sandro brought down Rodrygo inside the box. Mbappé then played a key role in Madrid’s second goal, as his saved shot rebounded to Lucas Vázquez, who set up Díaz for a simple finish.

Mbappé doubled his tally with a superbly placed shot into the top corner after a clever cutback from Rodrygo. He nearly secured a first-half hat-trick, but his goal was ruled offside due to his positioning in the build-up.

Jude Bellingham missed an early second-half chance, but Madrid soon extended their lead when Rodrygo finished off a low cross from Fran García, who had been played in by Mbappé.

Although Bellingham and Fede Valverde had goals disallowed for offside, Madrid continued to dominate. The match also saw a significant moment as David Alaba made his long-awaited return from a serious knee injury after more than a year on the sidelines.

With this win, Real Madrid not only reclaimed the top spot in La Liga but also sent a strong statement about their title ambitions.
