 Fast-Rising Music Star 2G Idibia Names Davido and 2Baba as His Biggest Influences

Emerging music talent Benjamin Idibia, popularly known as 2G Idibia, has revealed that Nigerian music icons Davido (David Adeleke) and 2Baba (Innocent Idibia) have had the greatest impact on his musical journey.

In a recent interview with LEADERSHIP Sunday, 2G Idibia shared insights into his career, inspirations, and future aspirations.

“Davido and 2Baba are my biggest influences,” he stated. “Davido is a living legend and an icon, as well as a generous person. He has shown me that music can take you anywhere in the world. On the other hand, 2Baba is a unique and intellectual artist—his music brings me joy and fills me with an endless sense of love.”

A Musical Legacy

Reflecting on his background, 2G Idibia revealed that he comes from a musically inclined family. His grandfather was both a local musician and a trader, while two of his uncles, Ekpo and Ogaba Oyapi, are traditional musicians. Additionally, his family includes gospel artists—his elder sister and little niece—while his elder brother pursues R&B. His step-elder brother, known as Sabada, is a traditional drummer.

2G Idibia’s musical journey began as a dancer and singer with a group called Nation Boys in Otukpo. Eventually, he decided to pursue a solo career, striving to make his mark in the industry.

Upcoming Projects

Known for his distinctive Afrobeats sound, 2G Idibia is currently working on an EP that features international collaborations between Nigeria and Jamaica. One of the tracks, Girls Fever, is a joint project with Dre Khalif and consists of six songs.

Additionally, he is set to collaborate with Xcop, a South African artist, along with PM Rock, further expanding his international reach.
