Why Sokoto gratuity payment is delayed — Committee chair

Sokoto Government Reaffirms Commitment to Timely Payment of Retirees’ Gratuities

The Sokoto State Government has reiterated its dedication to ensuring that all eligible retired civil servants receive their gratuities without delay. This assurance was given by Umar Tambuwal, the chairman of the committee overseeing gratuity payments and the State Accountant General, following concerns raised by some beneficiaries about not receiving their payment notifications despite completing the screening process.

Tambuwal explained that once retirees successfully undergo screening, the committee promptly approves the disbursement of funds. However, he acknowledged that some beneficiaries, particularly those residing outside the state capital, might experience delays in receiving their payment alerts.

Payment Delays Attributed to Banking Issues

Clarifying the reason behind these delays, Tambuwal emphasized that the issue is not from the committee but rather technical challenges with financial institutions, as all payments are processed electronically.

A statement issued by Sirajo Gada, the Information Officer of the Ministry of Finance, and made available to the press on Sunday, highlighted the committee’s commitment to working closely with the affected banks to resolve the outstanding payments swiftly.

Government’s Assurance to Retirees

Tambuwal urged retirees to remain patient, assuring them that Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration is fully dedicated to clearing the backlog of gratuities owed to former civil servants. He reaffirmed that every effort is being made to ensure that all outstanding payments are processed as soon as possible.
