Osun Man Granted State Pardon Returns to Crime, Remanded in Prison
An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of Sunday Omisakin at the Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing a plasma television.
Omisakin, who was previously convicted of minor offenses, was among those granted state pardon by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on December 24, 2024. He was listed as number 8 on the official pardon list.
Alongside Omisakin, the governor also pardoned Segun Olowookere and Sunday Morakinyo, both of whom had been sentenced to death for armed robbery and stealing a fowl in Oyan, Osun State.
Fresh Allegations After Release
However, just days after his release, Omisakin was accused of reoffending. According to a charge sheet obtained on Tuesday, he allegedly committed a new crime on January 3, 2025, when he broke into a house in the Iludun area of Osogbo and stole a plasma television worth ₦600,000.
The charge sheet reads in part:
COUNT I: That you, Adebayo Omisakin Sunday ‘m’, on the 3rd day of January 2025 at about 12:00 pm at the Al-Medinat Area, Iludun, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did break into the house of one Shittu Damilare ‘m’ and steal one Plasma TV valued at Six Hundred Thousand Naira (₦600,000:00k).
COUNT II: That you, Adebayo Omisakin Sunday ‘m’, on the same date, time, and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal one Plasma TV valued at Six Hundred Thousand Naira (₦600,000:00k), the property of one Shittu Damilare ‘m’.
Court Ruling and Remand Order
The offense was said to be in violation of Section 411(1)(2) and Sections 383 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
Omisakin was first arraigned on January 7, 2025, and applied for bail, but the prosecutor, Kayode Adeoye, opposed the request.
Presiding over the case, Magistrate A. Adeyeba adjourned the hearing to January 10 for a ruling on the bail application. However, after reviewing the arguments, the magistrate denied bail and ordered that Omisakin be remanded at Ilesa Correctional Centre.
