Opeyemi Famakin Vows to Keep Finances Private After N80 Million Tax Bill
Celebrity food critic Opeyemi Famakin has decided to keep his financial matters private after receiving an unexpected tax bill shortly after discussing his income in an interview.
Famakin revealed that just 48 hours after publicly mentioning his earnings, the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) contacted him via email with an N80 million tax assessment.
Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, he recounted the surprising turn of events and hinted that his disclosure may have triggered the tax authority’s response.
“Two days after I talked about my finances, LIRS sent me an email billing me N80 million. I paid it, oh. It felt like a joke at first,” he said.
The experience has made him rethink discussing his income publicly.
“I will never talk about my finances again. Even though I said ‘allegedly’ when I mentioned the figure, they still sent me the bill. But let’s not talk about it—I’m now a proud taxpayer,” he added.
Famakin previously made headlines in 2022 when he claimed to be Nigeria’s highest-paid food critic, stating that he could earn up to N9 million in a bad week.
