Manchester City Secure Uzbekistan Defender Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens

Manchester City have officially signed Uzbekistan international Abdukodir Khusanov from French club Lens, with the transfer reportedly valued at €40 million ($42 million), plus add-ons.

Khusanov, who has agreed to a four-and-a-half-year contract, becomes the first Uzbek player to join a Premier League club. His deal will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the end of the 2028/29 season.

Khusanov Excited for City Challenge

The 20-year-old centre-back, who has earned 18 international caps, expressed enthusiasm about joining the reigning Premier League champions:

“This squad is filled with some of the best players in the world, and I can’t wait to meet them and play alongside them,” he said.

Khusanov also highlighted his eagerness to develop under Pep Guardiola:

“Pep is one of the greatest coaches of all time, and I am incredibly excited to learn from him and improve my game even further.”

City’s Perspective on the Signing

Txiki Begiristain, City’s Director of Football, praised Khusanov’s defensive qualities and potential for growth:

“For such a young defender, Abdukodir already demonstrates great intelligence, along with strength, aggression, and exceptional speed.”

“Working with Pep will only enhance his abilities, and after speaking with him, it’s clear he is determined to keep improving.”

Defensive Boost for Guardiola’s Squad

Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League standings, Manchester City delivered an emphatic 6-0 victory over Ipswich on Sunday.

With City experiencing a season marred by defensive injuries, Khusanov’s arrival provides much-needed reinforcement at the back. His versatility and physical attributes could prove valuable as Guardiola’s team pushes for silverware across multiple competitions.
