LGBTQ: Trump gives deadline for closing DEI offices, places workers on paid leave

Trump Orders Closure of All Federal DEI Offices

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), following an executive order from President Donald Trump, has directed all federal agencies and departments to shut down their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices by the end of Wednesday.

This directive comes in the wake of Trump’s recent executive order aimed at eliminating DEI programs across the federal government. Additionally, the president issued another order establishing the official policy of the U.S. government to recognize only two genders: male and female.

According to Fox News, Trump has instructed OPM to place employees working in DEI offices on paid administrative leave. Acting Director of OPM, Charles Ezell, reportedly sent a memorandum to department and agency leaders on Tuesday, mandating them to notify DEI employees of their status change.

The memo also required agency heads to issue a department-wide notice informing all staff of the office closures. Furthermore, employees were encouraged to report any attempts to continue DEI initiatives under different names or with ambiguous language.

In addition, DEI offices have been ordered to remove all external media, including websites and social media accounts, as part of the termination process.

This move is expected to have significant implications for federal workplace policies, marking a sharp departure from previous diversity and inclusion efforts.
