Ini Edo Opens Up on Choosing Surrogacy and Motherhood Journey
Renowned Nollywood actress Ini Edo has finally shared the reason behind her decision to opt for surrogacy instead of carrying her child herself.
Speaking during the ongoing Season 3 of the reality show ‘Young, Famous & African’, Ini Edo also addressed questions about her daughter’s paternity and her experience with pregnancy challenges.
During a conversation with her co-stars, actress Nadia Nakai inquired about Ini Edo’s marital status and her child’s father:
• Nadia: “Do you have a child?”
• Ini Edo: “Yes, a baby girl.”
• Nadia: “Are you married?”
• Ini Edo: “No, I’m not.”
• Nadia: “Are you with the father?”
• Ini Edo: “No, I’m not.”
• Nadia: “Is he still alive?”
• Ini Edo: “He’s alive but has no involvement with us. It’s just me and my daughter.”
Explaining her decision further, Ini Edo revealed that she struggled with fertility issues and had difficulty carrying pregnancies to full term.
“I don’t really like talking about my journey because it’s personal, but I am raising my child alone. I went through surrogacy because, at the time I wanted a child, there was no man in my life. There are different ways to become a mother,” she explained.
She admitted that she never anticipated fertility struggles but had suffered multiple miscarriages before considering surrogacy.
“I had gone through IVF procedures and experienced six miscarriages. When it became clear that carrying a pregnancy wasn’t working and I was getting older, I explored my options. Surrogacy came up, and I took it. I’m very happy with my decision.”
Her Past Marriage
The 42-year-old actress was previously married to Nigerian-American businessman Philip Ehiagwina in November 2008, but their marriage ended in divorce in 2014.
