Body Of Drowned Ekiti Varsity Student Found, Recovered

Body of Missing EKSU Student Recovered from Ekiti River

The body of one of the two missing students from Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, who were feared drowned in an Ekiti river, was discovered and retrieved on Sunday evening.

Over the weekend, unconfirmed reports suggested that two undergraduates from the university had possibly drowned at Ero Dam in Ikun Ekiti, located in Moba Local Government Area, after being declared missing.

Tragic Incident at Ero Dam

The students, identified as Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, both from the Department of Theatre Arts, reportedly went swimming in the river, which led to the tragic event.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Ekiti State Command, SP Sunday Abutu, stated:

“The body of one of the missing EKSU students was found floating on Ero Dam at approximately 18:00hrs on Sunday. The remains have been taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, for an autopsy. Search efforts are still ongoing to determine the whereabouts of the second student.”

How the Tragedy Unfolded

Reports indicate that the students, along with their supervisor and colleagues, had traveled to Igogo Ekiti, a neighboring community, for a research project and rehearsal.

After the supervisor concluded the assignment and left with the rest of the group, the two students reportedly stayed behind and later decided to visit Ero Dam for sightseeing.

When they failed to return, concerns grew, and some local residents suspected they might have drowned in the dam.

Ongoing Search for the Second Student

Earlier, SP Abutu had confirmed that the students were officially declared missing. Since then, police rescue teams and local fishermen have been conducting search operations in and around the dam to locate the second missing student.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident while urging students and the public to exercise caution around water bodies.
