The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of five farmers in the Odo-Eku community, located in the Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when unidentified gunmen stormed the area.
Responding to an inquiry by journalists, the Police Command released a statement on Thursday. They confirmed that the five abducted farmers, who are originally from the Northern region but reside in Odo-Eku, were taken from their homes during the early hours of Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, signed the statement, which read: “Kwara Police Command is aware of a kidnap incident that occurred at about 0115 hours on 15/01/25 at the Odu-Eku Camp in Odo-Eku Community, Isin LGA of Kwara State, where five individuals were kidnapped. Two males and three females have been taken to an unknown location. Immediate deployment has been carried out, and the Police, along with the Vigilante group, are on a rescue mission. Further updates will be communicated as they unfold.”
It is that the gunmen, believed to be kidnappers, abducted five individuals, including a mother and her daughter, in the Odo-Eku community. The assailants struck under the cover of darkness and whisked their victims away to an unknown location.
Elder Ogundeji, the Odofin of Odo-Eku and a community leader, revealed that the gunmen invaded the homes of their victims overnight, abducting five people. “The victims are Hausa farmers who live in Odo-Eku. Among them are a woman, her daughter, another woman who was visiting, and two men,” he said.
Ogundeji added that police officers had visited the scene and assured the community that they would investigate and work to rescue the victims. “Since yesterday (Wednesday) morning, the combined Vigilante group, including those from other communities, have entered the forest in search of the abducted farmers,” Ogundeji further informed our correspondent.
As the situation unfolds, the community remains on high alert, hoping for the safe return of the abducted farmers.
