The Ondo State Police Command has announced a restriction on vehicular and motorcycle movements across the state from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday 18th January 2025
as part of measures to ensure a secure local government election.
In a statement released on Thursday in Akure by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the state’s Police Commissioner, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, emphasized that the directive is aimed at maintaining law and order during the voting exercise.
The commissioner advised commuters planning to pass through Ondo State on the election day to make alternative arrangements in light of the restrictions.
“Security personnel, health workers, firefighters, and other essential service providers are exempted from this restriction to enable them to perform their duties. Emergencies will also be given due consideration,” the statement added.
He further appealed to eligible voters to follow electoral guidelines and conduct themselves peacefully while exercising their civic rights.
Addressing potential threats, Mr. Afolabi issued a stern warning to individuals intending to disrupt the election. “Anyone planning to cause unrest on election day should reconsider. Security measures have been put in place to address any misconduct swiftly.”
The police commissioner also assured the public that adequate arrangements had been made to safeguard voters, officials, and materials, ensuring a smooth electoral process.
