Mohbad’s Mother, Yomi Fabiyi Clash Over Allegations Against Late Singer’s Brother

Tensions have flared between Mrs. Abosede Aloba, the mother of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, and actor Yomi Fabiyi over allegations involving the deceased’s brother, Adura.

Fabiyi, on December 13, 2024, filed a petition with the Lagos State Police Command, claiming that Adura initiated an Instagram conversation in which he allegedly offered video evidence of how Mohbad died. According to the petition, Adura demanded ₦3 million to be paid in Bitcoin in exchange for the evidence. Fabiyi later shared the details on his social media platforms.

Adura, however, denied the allegations, asserting that the Instagram chat was sent by a friend to whom he had sold his phone.

During a press conference held on Wednesday at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, Fabiyi insisted the messages came from Adura and accused him of possessing knowledge about Mohbad’s death.

Responding to the claims, Abosede Aloba passionately defended her son, stating he was innocent and warning against dragging him into the controversy. She expressed fears of losing another child after the tragic death of Mohbad.

“They killed Mohbad, and now you want to take his brother away unjustly. Adura knows nothing about his brother’s death. Do not implicate my son,” she said.

Abosede further alleged that the incriminating message was sent by another individual named Damola, who had previously apologized to her for the misunderstanding.

“This is not fair. Adura has denied this multiple times, yet you called a press conference to tarnish his image. I won’t let them take my second son away. Those exploiting my son’s death for their benefit, I leave them to God,” she added, visibly emotional.

In his defense, Fabiyi maintained that his focus was on the content of the message rather than the identity of the sender.

“Whether or not it was Adura who sent the message, the fact remains it came from his handle. I thought he wanted to help his brother. If someone demanded ₦3 million and I didn’t speak out, wouldn’t that be wrong? I have nothing against him, but I must follow the truth,” Fabiyi stated.

Mohbad, aged 27, tragically passed away on September 12, 2023. The circumstances surrounding his death have since sparked widespread speculation and controversy.

A former signee of Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad had left the label in February 2022. Following his death, the Lagos State Police Command launched a 13-member investigative panel to probe the case.

The fallout also led to the arrest of Naira Marley and socialite Balogun Eletu, popularly known as Sam Larry. On September 21, 2023, Mohbad’s remains were exhumed for an autopsy to uncover the cause of his death, as the public continues to demand justice for the late artist.
