Mercy Chinwo drags ex-manager to court for diverting $345K music royalties

Famous Nigerian gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo, has taken legal action against her former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, accusing him of embezzling $345,000 in music royalties.

In response to Chinwo’s allegations, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed a motion seeking Onyedikachukwu’s presence in court. The Lagos State Federal High Court has since issued an arrest warrant for him.

On January 24, 2025, Onyedikachukwu will face charges for allegedly withholding Chinwo’s rightful earnings from her online music platforms and concerts. The EFCC’s affidavit noted that Chinwo had lodged a formal complaint against her ex-manager, and despite their attempts to apprehend him, he remains at large.

Justice Alexander Owoeye granted the EFCC’s request for the warrant on Thursday.

It is important to note that Mercy Chinwo had been signed to EeZee Conceptz, a label owned by Onyedikachukwu, since 2017, following her victory in the second season of Nigerian Idol. However, in September 2022, it was reported that Chinwo parted ways with the label, citing unresolved financial issues.
