Trump Appoints Hollywood Stars as Special Envoys to Revitalize Entertainment Industry
In a move aimed at revitalizing Hollywood, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, and Jon Voight as special envoys to the entertainment industry. The trio, all long-time supporters of Trump, are set to play a key role in what he describes as an effort to make Hollywood “stronger than ever before.”
These veteran actors, who collectively boast ten Academy Award nominations and three wins, stand out in an industry where many figures traditionally align with the Democratic Party. However, their careers have been marked by both professional acclaim and personal controversies, with two of them—like Trump himself—having faced serious legal issues.
Trump’s Vision for Hollywood’s Revival
Announcing the appointments on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone as Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place—Hollywood, California. They will serve as my Special Envoys to help bring Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to foreign countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!”
A History of Controversies
Jon Voight has been an outspoken Trump supporter, and while his career has been largely controversy-free, he made headlines in 2020 when actor Frank Whaley accused him of slapping him on the set of Ray Donovan.
Mel Gibson, on the other hand, has faced multiple scandals over the years, including accusations of anti-Semitism, racism, homophobia, and domestic violence. His 2006 arrest for drunk driving in Malibu became infamous after he was recorded making anti-Jewish remarks. Additionally, in 2010, leaked recordings captured Gibson using racist slurs against his ex-partner Oksana Grigorieva, who later accused him of physical abuse. Despite these incidents, he has gradually rebuilt his Hollywood career.
Sylvester Stallone, who recently praised Trump as the “second George Washington,” has also faced legal scrutiny. In 2018, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office determined there was insufficient evidence to pursue allegations of sexual assault against him, dating back to the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 2007, he admitted to illegally importing human growth hormones into Australia, claiming they were prescribed by a doctor and not intended for illicit use.
Trump’s Confidence in His Appointees
Trump expressed strong support for his chosen envoys, stating, “These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like the United States of America itself, the Golden Age of Hollywood!”
Hollywood’s Political Divide
Historically, the entertainment industry has leaned heavily toward Democratic candidates, with numerous high-profile figures—including Taylor Swift and George Clooney—backing Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Despite this, Trump has largely bypassed traditional celebrity endorsements, instead focusing on support from influential figures in online conservative circles, particularly hyper-masculine YouTube personalities.
With this latest move, Trump aims to reshape Hollywood’s landscape, but whether his appointees can bridge the industry’s political divide remains to be seen.
