Erling Haaland has committed his future to Manchester City by signing a new long-term contract that will keep him at the club until 2034.
The Norwegian forward, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has netted 111 goals in 126 appearances for the club so far. His previous contract, which included a release clause, was set to expire in 2027.
With the new agreement, Haaland will remain at the Etihad until he turns 34, should he stay until the end of the contract’s duration. This makes his deal the longest in Premier League history, surpassing the nine-year contract signed by Cole Palmer with Chelsea last August.
“I’m really happy to have signed my new contract and look forward to spending more time at this great club,” Haaland said. “Manchester City is a special place, with incredible people and fans, and it’s an environment that helps everyone perform at their best.”
He also expressed gratitude to manager Pep Guardiola, his teammates, and everyone at the club for their support over the past years.
City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, commented, “The length of Haaland’s new contract shows our commitment to him as a player and his dedication to the club.”
Haaland’s debut season with City in 2022-23 was historic, as he scored 52 goals in all competitions, averaging a goal every 79 minutes. Last season, he netted 38 goals, although his strike rate has slightly dipped this term to one goal every 118 minutes, with 22 goals to date.
He currently holds the best minutes-per-goal ratio of any Premier League player with over 5,000 minutes played, averaging a goal every 91 minutes. His closest rival is former City striker Sergio Aguero, who scored a goal every 108 minutes.
Haaland is now third on Manchester City’s all-time Premier League top scorers list with 79 goals, trailing only Aguero (184) and Raheem Sterling (91). He also sits 61st on the all-time Premier League goal-scorers list.
