Footballer Collapses and Dies During Tournament in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Adeyemi Adewale, a footballer who collapsed while participating in a tournament in Osogbo, the state capital.


Adewale, a member of the Ilesa West Local Government Area football team, reportedly slumped on the pitch during the match and was immediately rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, upon arrival at the medical facility, doctors declared him dead.


Confirming the incident, Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, stated that the tragedy occurred on Thursday during the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final, held at Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo.


“During the final match of the Adeleke Memorial Cup, one Adeyemi Adewale, 29, a player for the Ilesa West Football team, collapsed on the field. He was rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where a doctor later confirmed his death,” the statement read.


Opalola further disclosed that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of his sudden collapse. Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital morgue as authorities continue their inquiry into the incident.
