The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, in a press release distributed to journalists in Osogbo, the state capital.

To prevent further escalation of the conflict, the governor has authorized a curfew from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, effective immediately from Thursday, January 16, 2025, until further notice.

The statement further reads:

“In light of the recent communal violence between the Ifon and Ilobu communities, the Osun State Government has implemented the following measures to restore peace:

A curfew from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am will be in effect immediately, starting Thursday, January 16, 2025, until further notice.

A contingent of security forces, including the Army, Police, and Civil Defence, has been deployed to the affected communities to prevent further disorder.

All stakeholders in the region are urged to work with the State Government towards a peaceful resolution to ensure lasting harmony.

An expanded Committee of Stakeholders, which will include representatives from both communities, service chiefs, the State Council of Obas, and other relevant bodies, will be formed to address the underlying issues permanently.

Lastly, any individual or group found inciting or engaging in violence, whether intentionally or unintentionally, will face legal consequences in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The statement concludes by emphasizing the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region.
