Ex-Minister Says He Can Now Focus on His Nine Children
Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK) has expressed gratitude following his acquittal in a medical forgery case filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The ruling, delivered on Tuesday by Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, cleared Fani-Kayode of all charges after the court determined that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case.
Following the verdict, a relieved Fani-Kayode reflected on his long legal battle, which had affected his family, career, and personal life.
“Four criminal cases by the EFCC in the last 18 years have been quite an ordeal for me. It hurt my family, my career, my business, and my everything. But today, we got the fourth and final one done. By the grace of God, I can now live my life, face my family, and take care of my nine children properly,” he stated.
Court Dismisses EFCC’s Case Against FFK
Fani-Kayode had been standing trial for allegedly forging medical documents that he presented before Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he was also being prosecuted for an alleged N4.9 billion fraud.
However, his legal team, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Norrison Quakers, filed a no-case submission, arguing that the EFCC failed to prove the allegations against him.
In her ruling, Justice Abike-Fadipe upheld the submission, stating that:
✅ The prosecution failed to provide evidence linking Fani-Kayode to forgery.
✅ The EFCC did not present any witnesses who claimed they collected forged documents from him.
✅ The lawyer who allegedly received instructions to submit the medical reports was not brought before the court.
Given these shortcomings, the court ruled that Fani-Kayode had no case to answer and discharged him of all charges.
Long Legal Battle Comes to an End
The acquittal marks the fourth and final case Fani-Kayode has faced in nearly two decades of legal battles with the EFCC. While he has repeatedly denied all allegations, the prolonged court cases have cast a shadow over his political career and personal life.
With this latest victory, Fani-Kayode now looks forward to rebuilding his life and focusing on his family.
